Cases of the Year
Sam Weinberg's Cases of the Year include cases with interesting or unusual diagnoses, diseases that were difficult to diagnose, or cases presenting management challenges. These cases should have attendant teaching value. Twenty cases will be selected for live presentation at the SPD's 51st Annual Meeting, to be held July 22-25 in Minneapolis.
- Case submissions are limited to three authors, and a CV for each author must be uploaded at the time of submission. (Additional contributors can be acknowledged on a slide at the end of the presentation.)
- A disclosure form will be required for each author, per CME requirements. A link to complete the form will be included in the submission confirmation email.
- Accompanying photos are required with case submissions.
- Cases may not be submitted by or have authors employed by industry.
- The case summary character limit is 2,700 characters including spaces.
- Cases will be blind reviewed; and while more than one case per institution can be accepted, a senior author is limited to one case acceptance.
- Accepted case presenters must register for the meeting.
- Accepted case authors will be required to submit their slides for CME review no later than July 9.
- Each case presentation should last no more than four minutes.
Poster Presentations
Research studies may be submitted as poster presentations. Accepted poster abstracts may be published in an upcoming issue of Pediatric Dermatology.
- Encore abstracts are acceptable, but please note on the submission form when/where they were published. Encore abstracts will not be published in Pediatric Dermatology.
- Case submissions generally are more appropriate for the “Cases of the Year” category. Cases that do not present new findings nor new opportunities for research will not be considered.
- Research studies should be relevant to pediatric dermatology.
- Multiple submissions for the same study are discouraged. Findings from a single study should be combined into a single submission.
- Submissions should include data; project proposals will not be accepted for presentation.
- Reviews of the literature must include the review type, methods, and a clear explanation of what the review adds to our knowledge of pediatric dermatology.
- The abstract character limit is 2,700 including spaces. Tables/figures/supporting files are not allowed.
- At least one author for the poster must register for and attend the Annual Meeting. There is no limit to the number of authors on a poster abstract.
- There is no separate late-breaking abstract deadline.
Travel Awards - Available to Trainees and Medical Students
The SPD will provide six Travel Awards for the 2026 Annual Meeting at $1,000 each – three will be awarded to accepted case presentations; and three will be awarded to poster presentations. You must be an SPD member to be eligible for a Travel Award. To apply, select the checkbox at the time of submission. Once the final selections for presentation are made, SPD's Awards Committee will determine the winners.
One additional $1,000 Travel Award sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Dermatology is available to dermatology residents, pediatric dermatology fellows, or medical students who present a poster. To be considered, submissions must be high-quality abstracts focused on pediatric dermatology education, workforce, Medical Home, or collaboration with pediatrician partners.
