The British Society of Gerontology Annual Conference attracts over 400 academics and other delegates from around the world interested in ageing and later life. In 2026 the conference will be held at Oxford Brookes University, Headington campus. Oxford Brookes is home to the Healthy Ageing & Care Research Network, which brings together more than a hundred researchers from across the university and connects them with knowledge exchange and community partners, service users and other research beneficiaries. Major research projects in the Network have examined ageing and global warming, housing and assistive technology, Person-Centered Integrated Care Networks, and the wellbeing of older refugees.

The conference theme this year will be ‘From the Local to the Global: Ageing in an Interconnected World’. We hope this theme will inspire delegates to make connections between local issues impacting the ways we age and wider global conditions affecting us all. Our confirmed keynote speakers are Professor Emi Kiyota (National University of Singapore) and Professor Sarah Harper (University of Oxford), both of whom bring a wealth of experience connecting local community engagement to global initiatives for change. As with past BSG conferences, the Oxford Brookes University Conference will include keynote addresses, symposia, posters, opportunities to engage with the BSG Special Interests Groups (SIGs) and themed special events.

Oxford Brookes University is located at the top of Headington Hill, overlooking the historic ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford. Affordable accommodation will be available in the University’s Clive Booth Student Village, just a ten-minute walk to the conference site, and there are a range of hotels and guest houses locally for those who prefer to stay off-site. The conference dinner will take place on campus on Thursday evening. Oxford has excellent transport links for national and international travellers – direct buses connect Oxford Rail Station for those arriving by train, and Oxford Airliner coach service provides 24-hour services for those using Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

In addition to the main conference, the Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) Conference on 22 and 23 June 2026, will give early career researchers (ECRs) the opportunity to present their research, engage in workshops, and network with other ECRs. It welcomes presentations on ageing-related topics from early career researchers at all stages.
