Submission Guidelines

Scientific Sessions

Scientific sessions are 1-hour long and can be attended by all registered Congress attendees. They can come in a variety of formats, such as lectures, seminars, panel discussions or debates. Each Scientific session should have a Chairperson who will introduce the session and the speakers, moderate live discussion between the speakers and the audience, and give concluding remarks to close the session. Scientific sessions will be limited to a maximum of 4 speakers, including the Chairperson.

Hands-On Simulation Labs

Hands-on simulation labs are 2-hours long, excluding a mid-session break. Each simulation lab requires pre-registration in addition to the main Congress registration. The minimum attendance for a simulation lab is 15 and the maximum is 30. We will require the minimum number of attendees to be registered for the simulation lab 2 months prior to Congress in order for it to occur. Simulation labs are practical teaching demonstrations where attendees get the opportunity to get physically involved in the session. They typically require equipment such as models, medical tools or other that allow the attendees to get a “hands-on” learning experience. Hands-on simulation labs will be limited to a maximum of 4 speakers, including the Chairperson.

Post-Congress Workshops

Post-Congress workshops are 4-hours long, including a mid-session break. Post-Congress workshops take place on Friday 13 October 2023 and require pre-registration in addition to the main Congress registration. The minimum attendance for a workshop is 25 and the maximum is 50. We will require the minimum number of attendees to be registered for the workshop 2 months prior to Congress in order for it to go ahead. Workshops are focused, interactive seminars that offer attendees a deep-dive into a specific area of interest. They should offer many opportunities for audience participation including quizzes, small breakout groups with reporting, and similar exercise to encourage group interaction. Post-Congress workshops will be limited to a maximum of 4 speakers, including the Chairperson.

Abstract Papers

Accepted abstract papers will be presented at the Congress as either Oral Abstracts or ePosters. They will also be published as a supplement to FIGO’s International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO). The Scientific Programme Committee will select a few outstanding abstracts, whose authors will be invited to submit a full paper to the IJGO. There is a 250-word limit for each abstract paper submission. The online submission form is divided into the following sections:

Objective: Concise statement on why the study was conducted.

Method: Location, number and type of human subjects, non-human species or material being studied. Design of the study and type of intervention. Principal assays or test(s) performed and the types of statistical analyses if appropriate.

Results: Main findings and results should be reported. Results should be supported by statistical analysis where appropriate.

Conclusions: Main conclusions of the study and significance of the results. How the results may affect patient management or understanding of the condition.

Proof read your abstract carefully before submitting. Abstracts will be published in the IJGO supplement as submitted. Only use standard abbreviations if indicated, e.g. if using the abbreviation ‘FIGO’ you must first use the full spelling of ‘International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)’. Abstracts stating merely that the results will be presented or discussed at the congress will be rejected. The use of tables and images in the abstract is not allowed.

A maximum of one presentation will be permitted to each presenting author. Only the presenting author’s name will appear in the final Congress programme. All co-author names will be published in the IJGO. The presenting author must be a registered Congress delegate. Presenting authors will be notified regarding acceptance of their abstract and given a deadline by which to register. Failure to register in time may result in exclusion from the programme and IJGO supplement.

Film Festival

New for FIGO Paris 2023, the film festival will showcase high-quality videos addressing a range of topics, from short 10-minute surgical procedures to 1-hour advocacy documentaries. Film festival submission is split into 2 stages:

Stage 1: Submit a description of your film to be reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee. The online form is divided into the following sections:

- Objective: Describe the objective of the film and if necessary, include history, the diagnostic significance of symptoms, etiology or prevalence of disease, or the need for new skill development.

- Description: A detailed explanation of techniques shown or interviews which take place. This can include case histories, variations in management, prognosis, treatment or studies. Key operative techniques should be identified and demonstrated as clearly as possible.

- Conclusions: Summarise the main points and thoughts/observations on future developments.

Stage 2: If the Scientific Programme Committee wishes to proceed with your film submission, you will be asked to upload the film for a final review before it is accepted for presentation at the Congress.

Each film festival submission should have a designated presenter, who must be a registered Congress delegate and be present at the Congress for questions. Presenters will be notified regarding acceptance of their film and given a deadline by which to register.

Videos presented at the Congress as part of the film festival will be added to an educational library, hosted by FIGO’s Education Communication and Advocacy Consortium (ECAC), which may commercialise content from the Congress after it has taken place.

Important Caveats

Since FIGO Paris 2023 will be an in-person event, all Chairpersons, speakers and designated presenters must be available to present in-person at the Paris Convention Centre between 9–12 October 2023, and on 13 October 2023 for post-Congress workshops.

Some sessions will be recorded at the Paris Convention Centre, and speakers will be required to agree to FIGO’s use of the recording after the session has taken place. Speakers will be informed of this requirement if the proposal is accepted.

All Chairpersons, speakers and designated presenters will be required to register as a Congress delegate in order for their presentation to be included in the final programme.

The host(s) and/or faculty of an accepted submission will be responsible for their own equipment, travel, accommodation and registration costs.

All Chairpersons, speakers and designated presenters will be required to complete a Conflict of Interest (COI) form. COI should be declared at the point of submission.

Preference will be given to submissions with speakers from different geographical regions and interactive formats.

The Scientific Programme Committee welcomes submissions for all submission types in English, French or Spanish. Submissions in other languages will not be reviewed or accepted.

There is no limit on how many submissions one person or organisation can submit. However, only one submission per individual or organisation will be accepted.

The Scientific Programme Committee reserves the right to reassign the type of a submission at its discretion.

Submissions which have been presented at other international meetings or have previously been published will not be accepted.
