Dear Colleagues,
We are all aware of the significant global challenges presented by COVID-19. FIP has a duty of care to its members, volunteers and congress participants, and is in regular contact with the World Health Organization, globally and regionally. Our policy is to follow its advice, together with guidance from national states and governmental offices. We are also in regular contact with member organisations with whom we are collaborating on planned events.
Given the current situation with the COVID-19, FIP and its co-host, the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain, have taken the decision to reschedule FIP’s 80th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Spain’s 22nd National Pharmaceutical Congress. Postponing our annual congresses has been a difficult decision for our associations but has been led by responsibility, trust and solidarity: your safety and the well-being of your communities are our priority.
The new dates for the 80th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the 22nd National Pharmaceutical Congress will be 12 – 16 September 2021, and 14-16 September 2021, respectively.
We will continue to work with all our partners to ensure a successful and vibrant congress.
Registrations
Registrations already paid for have been transferred to the 2021 congress. We understand that positions and delegations could change, so we will not be charging name change fees for those already registered and paid should the originally registered participants be unable to attend in 2021.
For those registrants who wish to cancel their registration, a full refund will be made, minus an administrative fee of 10%, in order to help FIP, which is a non-profit organisation, to survive the huge financial setback of rescheduling this congress.
If you wish to cancel your registration, please send an email to our registration office at fip@mci-group.com before Friday 15 August 2020.
Hotel reservations
Participants who have already made their hotel reservations through our housing agent BCO Congresos will be contacted directly by them about the possibility to transfer reservations to 2021.
Programme / Invited chairs and speakers
The programme for the FIP 2020 congress in Seville will, in principle, remain in place for the 2021 congress. The sessions programme including invited chairs and speakers will largely stay the same, but the FIP Congress Programme Committee will continue to revise and develop the programme in the coming period to maintain its relevance. Everyone involved in the congress sessions will be kept informed of developments. Invited chairs and speakers’ registrations have been transferred to the 2021 congress.

Please note that the 2020 FIP Council Meeting and other satellite events will take place virtually.

The technological revolution – Impact on pharmacy and health care
The 2021 FIP congress will show us that the technological revolution is posing new challenges in all areas. Comprehensive and seamless patient care can be a reality if the possibilities offered by new technologies are exploited to improve quality, efficiency, accessibility and communication in a patient’s health care journey.
Topic A
Enabling change — Is your country ready?
We will focus on change in both developed and developing countries, education, workforce, advocacy, regulation and the cost of change.
Topic B
Passion for pharmacy innovation
We will look at scientific and technological innovations occurring around the world and how to adapt to and exploit these advances in pharmacy.
Topic C
From children’s health to healthy ageing — Impact of technologies on quality of life.
The foundations for lifelong good health are best laid in childhood. We will explore how to do that together with the many possibilities for healthy ageing.
Topic D
Targeting special interests
We will offer sessions catering for special interests in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and The General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain are excited and honoured to host you in Seville, Spain, at the 80th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, from 12 to 16 September 2021.
Ubiquitous, mobile supercomputing. Intelligent robots. Self-driving cars. Neurotechnological brain enhancements. Genetic editing. News of dramatic change is all around us. We are at the beginning of a revolution that is fundamentally changing the way we live, work and relate to one another.
Previous industrial revolutions liberated humans from reliance on animal power, made mass production possible and brought digital capabilities to billions. This latest industrial revolution is fundamentally different. It is characterised by a range of technologies that are fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, impacting on all disciplines, economies and industries, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human. This technological revolution will also completely transform health care and pharmacy.
Digitalisation is already allowing the keeping of structured patient records, facilitating electronic prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines, automating the handling of medicines in the supply chain, and providing tools for monitoring the efficacy and safety of medicines in use. But technological progress also presents opportunities to invest in health care that proactively ensures better health and disease prevention, while ultimately minimising costs. Developments in technologies and smart systems capable of understanding health issues and complicated diseases also bring the prospect of new pharmacy tools and services. Innovation will provide ways of improving delicate decision-making processes and optimising treatment outcomes. Further advances will enable pharmacists to interact with patients through the creation of a common platform for accessing data and information in new, more efficient way.
Come to the 2021 FIP world congress, where pharmacy practitioners, pharmaceutical scientists and educators from around the world will discuss and prepare for these new technologies that will empower our profession.
