Message from President
Dear APBA Members
Welcome to the 13th Asia Pacific Burn Congress (APBC). It is with great honor and pleasure that we invite you to attend the APBC 2021, which will be held online (VIRTUAL) from October 21 to 24 in 2021. This congress will be held in conjunction with the 47th annual meeting of Japanese Society for Burn Injuries.
I hope that all members could find the time to attend the Congress which is the official congress of the APBA. We have previously announced that the APBC would be held in May 2021, but due to the current situation with the COVID-19 epidemic and the change in the timing of the Olympics, the congress has been moved from May 2021 in Tokyo to October 2021 in VIRTUAL.
The congress will be held under the theme “THE NEXT DYNAMIC CHANGE IN BURN CARE – Coping with Infection, Infection prevention and control –”. What is the next key to change the outcome of burn treatment dynamically? Great progress has been made in intensive care, respiratory management, and nutrition management. Advanced wound care techniques and materials have been introduced in topical therapy and surgery. However, the challenge that stands in the way of the latest treatment is “infection”. Burn wound infection makes wound closure difficult and systemic infection causes organ failure. If we can prevent and control infection, we can make the next dynamic change in burn treatment. Moreover, we are also adding a program on COVID-19.
This APBC 2021 will be held VIRTUAL, but we would like to make this meeting not just a regular meeting online, but a meeting that makes the most of the advantages of VIRTUAL and gives you the feeling that you are participating together, even if you are from different countries and regions. Please look forward to our VIRTUAL programs.
It would be our honor to have a great number of Burn care professionals from all over the world participating in this congress to achieve fruitful and successful outcomes. See you in APBC 2021 in VIRTUAL.
