PTCOG 59 Officially Postponed to May 2021
Dear Colleagues,
Over recent months, PTCOG has continued to monitor developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and how these may affect our PTCOG 59 objectives. We feel for all those who have been directly affected and wish them and their families well. The impact has been and continues to be hard to predict especially the differences among nations. PTCOG being an international organization, spanning many countries and cultures must take this into account as well.
While we have been very heartened to see the level of interest received for PTCOG 59 in 2020, it has become clear that many of these uncertainties are likely to remain a challenge well into the final months or even weeks before our September 6-11 conference. For this reason and with the considerable feedback from our scientific and industry partners, we have decided to postpone PTCOG 59 into 2021.
The 59th Annual Conference of the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group will now be held from Friday to Wednesday, May 21-26, 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Thus the PTCOG cycle has now been shifted one year. We are very happy for the opportunity to continue our conference plans in Taipei. With the strong interest received from both the scientific community and industry, PTCOG 59 (in 2021) promises to be a highly successful and memorable event. Therefore, we once again re-invite all members of the PTCOG community to join us in Taipei in May 21-26, 2021. Please save the date.
Please also note that PTCOG wishes to maintain continuity and communication within the Particle Therapy community this year. We are now reviewing our options to provide a short online event in 2020 and will share more information on this as soon as possible.

Dear PTCOG Friends,
On behalf of the PTCOG Executive Committee I am happily anticipating welcoming you to PTCOG 59 in Taipei, Taiwan. As Chair of PTCOG, it is my great pleasure to acknowledge the hard work of the Taiwanese local organizing committee and together with our PTCOG conference organization team from C-IN we are planning a truly unique and memorable meeting. PTCOG is always a multidisciplinary meeting, but it is also a multi-cultural and highly diverse meeting. The growth of particle therapy has brought with it a growing interest and collaboration from all corners of the globe and increased responsibility for PTCOG as an organization to do its part to help ensure the highest standards of particle radiation therapy. PTCOG has grown from a meeting of chatting in the corridors to helping to identify consensus standards, education and development. Indeed, it is our shared Vision to provide better care for patients worldwide.
On a more personal note, having served as your Chair for almost 5 years now, as I mentioned during PTCOG 58, it is time to begin another transition as we will vote for a Chair-elect in Taiwan to whom the Chairs responsibilities will transition in the following months. This causes me to pause and consider what we’ve accomplished together in the last few years. We have grown the topical subcommittees to about 14 now with all the disease sites covered and with productive and valuable contributions from these committees. We have transitioned to a PTCOG managed annual meeting with the help of a professional conference organizer C-IN. We have grown our budget to begin modest funding of some research projects, outreach educational sessions and began our contributions to the credentialing process. We have grown the Educational subcommittee and the growth of the Publications subcommittee has begun. This growth reflects the broadening of PTCOG with over 3000 members and the expansion of Particle Therapy and increased need for professional discourse and dissemination of information. The role of our sponsors continues to evolve, and we have tried to provide a consistent and useful experience for both vendor and all attendees. I don’t have the space to provide a full account of the accomplishments of our various committees, subcommittees and dedicated membership, but it fills my heart with pride to have been part of this.
I look forward to your participation and spending time with you in Taiwan and hope you grow from the meeting, will take time to enjoy the local flavor and hospitality.
