2020年第52届日本动脉粥样硬化学会(JAS)年会/在线会议将于2020年7月17日至31日在日本名古屋举行，会议由日本动脉粥样硬化学会(JAS)主办，本次会议将汇集科学家、医疗工作者、政策制定者和所有对动脉粥样硬化感兴趣的相关人士。日本动脉粥样硬化学会(JAS)成立于1974年，旨在汇集来自基础、临床、营养、统计、农学等所有领域的专业人士，促进对动脉硬化的成因、预防、治疗的研究。

Leaving from "A man is as old as his arteries." : healthy longevity through prevention of atherosclerosis

Message from President

The 52nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Atherosclerosis Society (JAS2020) will be held on July 17 (Fri), 18 (Sat) 2020 at the Nagoya International Congress Center. It is the first time in 10 years that this meeting has been held in the Tokai area since Professor Shinji Yokoyama was held in Gifu in 2010, and in Nagoya city it will be the first time in 25 years.

The theme is 'Leaving from "A man is as old as his arteries." : healthy longevity through prevention of atherosclerosis'. During my graduate school days, my seniors told me the saying, "A man is as old as his arteries.". For me, who decided to be a geriatric researcher, it is a memorable word that convinced that atherosclerosis is a good research theme for me.

It has been more than 30 years since I began to be involved in research on atherosclerosis, and during that time diagnosis and treatment of many diseases related to atherosclerosis have dramatically improved, and atherosclerosis itself has become a time that can be prevented considerably. In fact, it is undeniable that prevention of atherosclerosis has increased healthy older people and contributed to prolonging life. Nevertheless, atherosclerosis is still important when considering the cause of death and the cause of long-term care in Japan, which has entered into the super-aged society.

However, in the future, I would like to make it an era when people can not say, "A person has aged because of atherosclerosis." Therefore, we would like to get rid of this old saying "A man is as old as his arteries." and move on to the next step. We will create an era in which we aim to achieve "healthy longevity through prevention of atherosclerosis". Therefore, we have made this theme in the hope of further research on atherosclerosis for its realization.

We are doing our best to ensure that this JAS2020 meeting will be fulfilling for everyone who take part, and we hope that as many of you as possible will come to JAS2020 in Nagoya.
