The 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Chest Surgery

I am very pleased to announce that The 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Chest Surgery will be held at the GRAND NIKKO TOKYO DAIBA in Odaiba, Tokyo on May 21st (Thu) to 22nd (Fri), 2020. It is a great honor for the Department of General Thoracic Surgery at Jichi Medical University to hold this annual meeting for the second time since 12 years ago.

Odaiba is a waterfront part of downtown Tokyo and developed into one of Tokyo's most popular tourist attractions and date spots with a wide selection of shopping, dining and leisure options within a few decades. It is one of the competition venues in the Tokyo Summer Olympic July and August 2020. You can enjoy not only seaside area but Olympic mood in Odaiba under the most comfortable weather condition in Japan.

Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Chest Surgery is the largest meeting specialized for thoracic surgeons. Most of thoracic surgeons look forward to their interactions and contributions to this annual meeting. In these years, progress in science and technology as information engineering, artificial intelligence, supercomputers, robotics and genome science, etc., has been a great impact on the general thoracic surgery. Surgical strategy can be drastically changed with the various cutting-edge technologies. The main theme of this annual meeting is entitled “Chest Surgery in Diversity”. This annual meeting is expected to be one of the great chances to look for a further growth of the chest surgery in medical and engineering collaboration and the development of new technologies.

The international conference of sublobar resections for lung cancer chaired by Prof. Ohizumi in Yamagata University will be held as the joint meeting with us. We would also like to interact internationally with thoracic surgeons. I hope this joint meeting can inspire either Japanese thoracic surgeons or oversea surgeons academically and culturally leading to mutual understanding.

All of us here at the Department of General Thoracic Surgery at Jichi Medical University will be working together as a team to organize this annual meeting and appreciate your kind support.
