Consistent with all prior ICFTD meetings, the focus with be on the presentation of new data relating to FTD spanning the key areas of clinical, neuropsychology, neuroimaging, genetics, biofluid markers, molecular biology, neuropathology, animal models and treatment. While established investigators present updated concepts and breakthroughs, involvement by trainees are highlighted via oral and poster presentations. In keeping with the longstanding philosophy of the MCSCPD, clinicians seeking education on FTD will be welcome. Additionally, concurrent educational sessions for patients and care partners covering diagnosis, management, support and empowerment are also provided.

12th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias and 1st International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias Congress

(Meeting times are all Pacific)

The 12th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias and 1st International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias Congress is a international conference devoted to frontotemporal lobar degeneration-spectrum disorders.

This year, the ISFTD Leadership Committee has decided that for the health and safety of our members, participants and staff, the meeting will be taking place in a virtual format on March 3-5. The Clinical/Scientific Track will take place over three days:

March 3 - 4, 2021  The 12th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias and 1st International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias Congress
March 5, 2021, Latin America Session of the The 12th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias and 1st International Society for Frontotemporal Dementias Congress

The Society made the difficult decision to replace the 12th International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias meeting in Minnesota with a virtual meeting, and by doing so, is rising to the occasion after the COVID-19 crisis in order to fulfill its mission.

This virtual meeting will be open to healthcare professionals across the globe and will allow delegates an opportunity to access the full International Congress Scientific Program content through a virtual platform without concern for health, welfare or trave. We are confident that this decision will help the Society continue to reach all corners of the world and meet the needs of the changing global climate.

This three-day conference will address advances in the clinical, biomarker and neuroimaging of FTD to an international audience. Genetic and sporadic forms of FTD will be described and discussed, as will be the use of neurological, neuropsychological, genetic testing, and biomarkers for the diagnosis of FTD. Related conditions will also be discussed. Caregiver burden will be addressed. We will offer special presentations from international consortium in North and South America, Europe, and Australia that follow FTD populations longitudinally. In addition, new findings about the biological changes that lead to FTD will be discussed. These include abnormal protein folding, abnormal lysosomal function and prion-like spread of proteins. Finally, exciting new advances in the treatment of FTD based upon the basic science discoveries will be presented.

The third day will represent the first effort to describe the impact of FTD in Latin America with discussion from leaders in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Colombia. In parallel to the Clinical/Scientific Track, an FTD Family Track will also take place.

The meeting is the premier venue for the synthesis, exchange and dissemination of research on FTD, where experts from diverse backgrounds and disciplines share recent discoveries, insights and opinions. This virtual congress will be the single most important opportunity for clinicians, scientists, and trainees from all over the world to share their knowledge with the goal to improve the care for patients with FTD.

ISFTD leaders have been discussing ways to make the Virtual Congress even more successful, including:
High quality FTD education
More opportunities for post-session discussion
More networking for participants
Innovative technology platform

CME

Target Audience: This conference is directed to a diverse audience of clinicians (neurologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, geriatricians, clinical geneticists, neuroradiologists, etc.), neuroscientists (molecular geneticists, neuropathologists, neurobiologists, pharmacologists), their trainees, as well as representatives from pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, government agencies, patient advocacy groups, the patients’ families, and other caregivers.

Objectives:
The ICFTD is now well-recognized as the premier venue for the synthesis, exchange and dissemination of research on FTD, where experts from diverse backgrounds share recent discoveries, insights and opinions.

This allows novel hypotheses to be generated, research collaborations to be established, consensus guidelines to be developed, training opportunities to be explored and knowledge to be translated across disciplines.

It will cover all aspects of FTD, including clinical/neuropsychiatry, neuroimaging, biomarkers, genetics, neuropathology, molecular biology, animal models, treatments, and overlap with related conditions (e.g., ALS, corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy), with invited speakers who are FTD authorities providing presentations on their areas of expertise. Sessions will be chaired by international leaders in the field who will encourage participation with the entire audience.

The Family Track provides a unique opportunity for new scientific knowledge to be shared directly with stakeholders (patients, families, caregivers, community organizations and health care policy makers) and, of equal importance, allows these stakeholders a rare opportunity to provide direct feedback to the medical and scientific community.
