Dear 2020 ICEOS Participant,

 

I want to welcome you to something new, the 14th annual International Congress on Early Onset Scoliosis in a virtual format! As we are all aware, the events of this year have been incredible. The effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic has been far-reaching and are continuously evolving. As the planning committee for the 2020 ICEOS has monitored the situation since last year’s meeting in Atlanta, we felt it was critically important to ensure this meeting take place in some form for a number of reasons. First, as the science and treatment of early onset scoliosis is so rapidly evolving, we felt a responsibility to provide this outlet for the exchange of scientific information about this condition we all treat – we need to ensure that all providers have access to the state of the art and our patients receive the best care available. Second, even if only in a virtual setting, we feel it is important to provide a forum for all providers caring for early onset scoliosis to come together, interact, and support one another.

 

While we weighed a number of options for this year’s meeting, we felt the most responsible response to the current global situation would be to move this year’s meeting to a virtual format to maximize participant safety and minimize travel. As such, we are pleased to offer a brief preview of the 2020 virtual ICEOS.

 

Please be on the watch for more details regarding meeting registration and exact meeting times, but save the dates for the meeting to be held over the originally scheduled dates, November 12-13. The virtual platform will allow a full slate of narrated abstracts to be available for meeting participant review in an on demand manner. We are also planning a two hour live virtual meeting session as. This live session will include the presentation of the awards papers, a keynote lecture on the past, present, and future of research for early onset scoliosis, and a special session on practice changing papers with a focus on how vertebral body tethering fits into the treatment of early onset scoliosis. In addition to these academic offerings, we will recognize the recipients of this year’s Robert M. Campbell award for special contribution to the field of early onset scoliosis and this year’s best paper with the Behrooz Akbarnia award.

We are confident it will provide great academic content, allow for continued scientific advancement of the field of early onset scoliosis, and forward our shared mission of improving the care for children with early onset scoliosis.
