Dear All,

We are thrilled and honoured to welcome you to the 35th Congress of EACTA, hosted in the city of Grenoble, the capital of the French Alps.

Grenoble is nestled in a unique natural setting: three majestic mountain ranges Vercors, Chartreuse, and Belledonne surround the city, each with its own landscape, traditions, and history. “At the end of each street, a mountain …”, wrote Stendhal, the famous 19th century novelist about his hometown.

Grenoble has been successfully reinventing itself for more than two centuries, often leading the way for cultural, social and industrial trends. In 1788, the people of Grenoble rebelled against the closure of the local Parliament decided by King Louis XVI. This led to the Day of the Roof Tiles, an event which is considered the prelude to the French Revolution. Nowadays, Grenoble-Alpes Métropole boasts of several internationally renowned higher-education institutions, second only to Paris in the number of doctoral students. Grenoble is one of Europe’s leading cities for research, technology and is at the forefront of ecology (do you mean green issues). It is not surprising that in 2014 Grenoble was recognised as the world’s fifth most innovative city by Forbes magazine. We invite you to our Gala dinner; after a short trip by cable car in a fortified site, you will enjoyed a fine French cuisine while having a breathtaking view of Grenoble and the mountains.

This year’s theme is “United in diversity” which is the European Union motto. The EACTA meeting brings together colleagues from over 50 different countries, giving clinicians, the opportunity to deal with the challenges of diversity. This year we collaborate with our colleagues of the French Association of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Heart-Thorax-Vessels (ARCOTHOVA). Whether in practice, in organization or from different professional perspectives, diversity, ”the art of thinking independently together” is the beating heart of innovation and unity. In the end, we are all working together to improve the quality of medical decisions based on EBM. To attain this goal, we will have the contributions of colleagues from all over the world and a very stimulating program.
